Groundbreaking ceremony for the New Building of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Garching

In 2018, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the architect's plan of Henn & Partner is now being implemented.

The new building of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Garching will be the largest and best-performing of its kind in Germany. Over 4,000 students are presently studying at the department.

The first section of the building complex will be completed in 2020, with its total of approximately 45,000 square meters of primary utilizable floor space, will include approximately 7,000 square meters of new space for laboratories, workshops, lecture halls and offices.

Interdisciplinary orientation is important with other departments Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics in Garching. 

Interdisciplinary approaches also with the research centers FRM II research neutron source reactor,  Walter Schottky Institute for semiconductor physics, as well as with the Centers for Nanotechnologies, Catalysis Research, Protein Research and Quantum Technology (construction in 2019).
